1. Create your pattern

There are different ways to create a pattern shape for the Kniterate App.

  1. Create a pattern using the Template Editor

    Let the wizard guide you through the steps to generate the garment panels.

  2. Draft from scratch on the canvas
    If you have pattern drafting skills, you can create a shape from scratch by picking the Rectangle canvas, adjusting its dimensions in the Shape pane, and using Free Edit together with the drawing tools to build the desired form directly on the canvas.
    You could also apply a motif or stitch structure using the stitch palette and the Tiling command to repeat a small sample.

    Use the Birdseye jacquard command to create jacquard designs. Use the “Clear” to empty spaces and create your shape, taking into account that in Jacquard, a visible row is formed by multiple knitting rows (depending on the number of colors).

  3. Draft a pattern in an external vector software

    Use Illustrator, CAD programs, or CLO3D and save them as SVG or DXF. Them import the patterns to Customist Studio using the “Import Vector Shape” base-creating command.

  4. Create a pattern using DesignaKnit9

    Make sure you have the latest update of DesignaKnit version 9 installed. If you need help with DesignaKnit9, you can find their tutorials here.

    Before you start a design, select the Kniterate machine from the list of machines.

 

Create your design as desired using the Standard Garment Styling or Original Pattern Drafting features.

Once the design is ready in DAK, go to File> Export to Kniterate. The program will open this window (see picture below), where you need to choose a piece to export and save. Click OK. 

Next, another window will appear where you can configure the options for the cuffs and waist ribs. Adjust your preferences as desired, then click OK to proceed.

Choose the location where you want the files to be saved on your computer.

Finally, choose your preferences for the neckband.

The files will be saved in .txt format.

Repeat the operation for each piece of the garment (Neckband options appear only for Front and Back pieces, not sleeves).

To import the generated panels into Customist Studio, use the “Load txt File Pattern” base-creating command. Once you’ve added the command to the stack, go to Params, then click the black square to select the .txt file to import from your computer. The pattern will appear on the canvas.
