Garter Stitch

I would try doing two knitting passes each time instead, it might produce a better outcome. As for the edges, it might be tension is not right, try increasing the roller takedown (double the 250, especially if you continue doing only one knitting pass). Something that could help to control tension could be a slightly smaller stitch size. Reducing speed could also help.

So far when I'm on stitch size 10, my roll distance was a minimum of 460. (It wasn't a garter stitch, but I think the takedown would be similar or greater.) This was with wool yarn NM 5.6 (2800 ypp), a little heavier than I like to knit. I agree with Gerard about trying a slightly smaller stitch size for more body, and reducing speed could help the shredding. Also to stop shredding you might try with 3 or 4 stitches at each edge that knit only on the front bed and never transfer.

This worked out great. I upped the roll, went down to a Size 8 stitch and added a slip stitch edging.
