After you're done deep cleaning the needle beds, jacks and needles, as discussed here, you're ready to place everything back into the machine.
The jacks are numbered 1 to 6, as shown in the image below. Group the jacks by their numbers.
The front bed:
- Take a jack number 1 and place it in the first groove from the left. The head of the jack should be just above where the cover rail will go, meaning the bottom will stick out slightly, as shown in the image below.
- Place a jack number 2 in the second groove, a jack number 3 in the thirds and so on.
- The pattern you see now should be 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6, reading left to right.
- Repeat this pattern until all grooves hold a jack. The last groove should hold a jack number 6.
- Slide the cover rail back to secure all jacks in their place.
The back bed:
- On the back bed, do the exact same as you did on the front bed, starting on the same side as you started the front bed. If you're standing behind the machine, that means starting from the first groove on the right-hand side.
- The pattern, reading left to right, will be 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1.
- Slide the cover rail back to secure all jacks in their place.
Before adding the needles, check if the jacks are all on the right places. You should have 42 sets of 6 on both sides, filling all grooves in the needle bed.
The needles:
- Take a needle and place the back of the butt in the empty groove on the needle bed.
- Slide the needle down into the groove until it touches the jack below.
- If done correctly, the latch should not overlap with the gutter for the horizontal bar.
- Place a needle in all grooves.
- Slide the horizontal bar back using the bar removing tool.
