How to contact fellow Kniterate folks?

    Hi Margit,

This is a question that we've been thinking about as well. Due to guidelines and legislation, we currently cannot offer an easy method for getting in touch with each other. For the time being, we can offer that both/all parties who'd like to be in touch reach out to us on support [at] kniterate [dot] com, so that we can send an introduction by email.

We're open to any suggestions of course! At least until we have a proper solution this could be a way to get in touch with each other, without any risk of contact information being made public.

    Best,

    Jipke

Margit, do you still have my contact details? And I understand what you are saying about the fractured nature of the Kniterate 'community' at this point. Why are there only 8 people listed 'here'? I note that Kniterate people are following each other in really loose connecting way on Instagram but really should we not all be sharing here in the 'official' forum.

I've considered making a general invitation through Zoom or another vehicle getting us all in the same virtual room but really would like to have a machine first otherwise all I have are questions and still learning from each other is so vital.

I just created a Kniterate users only Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/kniterate. It is unofficial and not sponsored by Kniterate, Inc. It is a community for those of us who have or are waiting for our machines and is not open to the public.

The group needs graphics and I'll work on that.

Please pass the word around to your other Kniterate friends / colleagues. Membership will be approved.

I understand the forces at play.  Still I'm saddened.  Be aware there are folks, like me, who are not Facebook users.  There are many alternative to Facebook groups, a simple duckduckgo search of "alternatives to Facebook groups" demonstrate plenty of choices and the reasons people choose to use them.

Mark, not clear on 'the forces at play' means/implies.... and why you are saddened. Can you recommend another 'forum/vehicle' for meeting/sharing on the Kniterate? Kathi

"The forces at play" I understand the desire to communicate with one and other, and how the rules and setup of the new forumn prevent it.

"Saddened" becuase to me it represents the start of the fracturing of the Kniterate community.

Without knowing all know all you want in group software, this might not be the best choice, but for simiple communication with other users, a private slack work space is effective in many communities.

And there might be a chicken and egg problem of allowing folks in that I haven't thought through.  the *Share an invitation link* section might get around the chicken and egg problem of knowing email addresses.

I am aware there may be some / many that are reluctant to join FB. I respect that. However, this is a start. :)

Hi for those interested we are in the U.K. and have been knitting since October 2020 with over 500 knitted scarves sold to date. Happy to talk to anyone about our journey - just ask jipke for our contact details .

For contact - one other option is a slack group which I am sure lots of people have. The problem is this will move people away from this community. @jipke have we considered using slack officially before someone done it unofficially!!

If people want to ‘find us’ just search google for our name and look for our fashion company in the U.K…. Should be easy enough to find!!

    Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you know that we are actively looking for a solution to accomodate the need for personal communication, as well as forum communication. Hopefully we will have more news on this before the end of this month. Will keep you posted here!

    Hi everyone,

We've been looking for a way to allow private messaging between users, but it looks like this is something we can only put in motion further down the line. However, something that we can offer is a partially hidden forum, much like the old 'backer only' forum. This way certain communication is only visible to a select group of users.

With this hidden-style forum, we could make a hidden topic for anyone wishing to get in touch with each other personally. We would only give access to this topic to those who wish to share their information, but it could be that this group grows to 40-50 people before we can allow private messaging on our own platform. To be clear, this doesn't mean that you'd be messaging with each of these people, but that they would be able to see the information you share such as a website or email address. Naturally, there will still be limitations in the information we can allow you to share, but at least you would be able to get in touch personally.

We are searching for a solution that helps our community grow and become more tight-knit, without scattering too much over different platforms. Please let us know what you think of the idea above!

Despite the fact that we are not to use our real names, contact information, etc., in this new forum, there are still people I really want to get in touch with. Is Kniterate able to support that in the same manner as it did in the old discussion boards, or should this be taken off-line and handled unofficially?

The rules of this new forum are that we are not allowed to use our real names, contact information, etc. Yet there are people I really want to contact through this forum. In your opinion, should we take this discussion off of Kniterate and make it unofficial, or should we keep it the way it was in the old Kniterate discussion boards?

It's a platform for Kniterate users to discuss topics, share projects, and get advice related to the Kniterate machine. Connect with other Kniterate users by creating an account or starting a new thread.

For those that are interested - there is a new slack group available for kniterate owners where you can connect with other kniterate owners - There is also a facebook group which you can join where you can connect.

    Kniterate endorses both of these

you can email us info at ecoknitwate.com if you want more info
