Multi colour Jacquard issues
Hi all,
Made some progress on the 2 sided knitting today but still having some issues on the back side. Anyone know why the stitches will be dropping half way through?

What Roll / Stitch Size / Yarn Weight (nm) are you using?

Robert Ingemarsson I’m using 6/6 stitch size with 450 roll and 2/15 merino yarn.

Something not quite right there - even the caston looks like it has not knitters properly: have you tried to see if different feeders make a difference . If you pop the buck over we will take a look / sample knit for you

I think the cast on is fine so interesting to see what you think. Ive spent a lot of time getting the cast on the way I like it and I'm now trying to make something with multiple colours to get the construction / settings right before we start designing something in full.

We knitted this fine on our machine su suggest you look at the top tension and then we can look at other things if that does not work.

So I changed the tensions at the top and it didn't make a difference unfortunately,
I then tried to move the yarns over to the right feeders and tried again and this time more if it worked but still having issues on the left side of the knitting.
I've attached another photo. What do you think we should try next?

Hi Laurence. I have not knitted too many jacquards just yet, but I was having a lot of issue plating and realized the problem was that the tips of my feeders were not centered between the beds. (In fact they weren't even close.) Maybe your issue also has something to do with the position of the feeder tips since it works a little better when you switched to different ones? I followed the instructions on the Kniterate troubleshooting page and that mostly fixed my plating problem.

I am starting to think this is the issue. I tried a 4 colour file and found that some feeders weren’t even able to knit more than 1 stitch on the row when it had to skip 2 stitches.
I’ve sent the files to kniterate to look at so will see what they say.

Just wanted to share an update on this issue. After discussing with kniterate support we have almost cracked there problem.
There were 2 changes the suggested -
- adjust the feeder hights based on this article here - this didn't really make a difference
- adjust the position of the feeders in the same way that Ole Johan Aanestad explains here
The second change seemed to fix the issues and we are now producing 3 and 4 colour jacquard samples.
We still have a few issues with the 4 colour - some random dropped stitches so if anyone can think of any tweaks to fix this it would be really appreciated.
But overall we are on the right path!

Looking good and great news that the adjustment works well :)
We always drop the speed a little for 4/5/6 colour jacquards.
Also, as the yarn stacks up with more colours, roll becomes more important (or more sensitive)

Hi All,
Just a wee update on this. Ive been working on some reversible knits but having a weird thing where random needles on the back bed are just dropping stitches. It's not consistent and its almost like the needles are not coming out properly. I started changing the needles and jacks to see if that was the issue but then it appears on another stitch. it eventually fixes itself.
Ive attached a photo of 3 samples where you can see the dropped stitches.
any idea on what could be the reason. I dont think its the kniterate from what im seeing on the machine.
Any help appreciated.

You may want to check the specific needle where the dropped stitch is occuring, maybe a sticky or slightly bent latch that is not catching .

@... the issue is that its random. i started changing some but there was nothing wrong. The ones it drops changes every time I make a sample.

Have you tried adjusting the stitch size or roll ? If the problem is random it might not be related to the needle.

You may want to try increasing the roll a bit so they kniitting is going down without random dropped stitches

@... if tried the roll speed. We are now seeing random issues in the waste yarn section of the knitting but only in the middle of the bed. I have tried it on the left and it works fine so something odd is going on.
I have noticed in the middle of the back bed only (have tried on left and not had the same issues) that the machine is making some weird noises before it drops random stitches as part of the waste yarn section. Ive added a short video for you to look at. You can hear the noises at the end of the video
This is working fine on the left of the machine - just not the middle.
Could their be grit or something in the back of the carriage? is there a way to check?
We have had to stop knitting all together due to this so would appreciate any ideas people have. (ive also raised with kniterate support)

If its knitting in a different part of the bed suggest you have broken (or slightly bent needles).
Find out where its failing and switch the needles out

I did change the needles and the jacks but noticed that there was no issues with them. But every time i fixed one needle another one started dropping.
Its really random - very odd.
And the noise sounds like there is something else going on.
Once it gets past the waste section it knits better but i dont want to try and fix any other issues till I resolve this one as not sure if the other dropped stitches in the body of the work are related or not.

What roll are you using and what yarn thickness
For needles, sometimes needles are bent and you cant see it visually

What’s odd is the needles work fine (other than a few random drops) when they get to full colour work.
We haven’t changed any other settings. Our roll speed is 440 and the waste yarn is the same as our main yarn - 2/15.5
I’m going to try with a different waste yarn and also try a different feeder in case it relates to the tension and see if that changes anything.0 -
Robert Ingemarsson ok so changing to yarn 3 fixed it - so it must be tension related.
Sorry to waste peoples time. I wodner if the other dropped stitches on the main body are tension /roll down related too. Will keep testing

Are you using the same weight of yarn in all the feeders?

yes. I have parked this while I try to resolve some basic designs again.
